Scalise Introduces Bill to “Sack” the Czars

H.R. 3569 would sunset all czars by the end of this year

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise has introduced the Sunset All Czars (SAC) Act, H.R. 3569. His bill will sunset all “czar” positions by the end of this year, eliminate appropriations to fund these positions and their offices, and require Senate confirmation of any future government official with czar-like powers.

“Our federal government should not be running banks, we should not be running car companies, and we should not have all of these czars,” Scalise said. “The dramatic increase in czars by this administration is a dangerous and growing trend. It’s time we sunset these czars with the broad powers they wield, and restore accountability and transparency to the American people.”

In case you missed it: Scalise participated in a press conference yesterday to discuss the Administration’s czars. You can watch the video clip from FOX News here.

H.R. 3569 will do the following:

•    Sunset all non-confirmed “czars” by the end of this year.
•    Cut off funding for all non-confirmed czars and their offices.
•    Require Senate confirmation of any future government official with czar-like powers.
